Happy Birthday Bob Dylan!

‘His Bobness’ turns 70 today so to mark this landmark birthday I thought it might be fun to take a look at this set of Bob Dylan postage stamps issued by Gambia in 1996.

The 1996 Bob Dylan ‘Rock & Roll Legends’ stamp is catalogued as Scott #1825 and was issued in attractive 16 stamp sheets in a clear attempt to catch the foreign memorabilia non-philatelic market – Bob Dylan fans who’ll be looking to frame these stamps rather than stow them away in albums! A handsome stamp nevertheless…

The description of Bob Dylan’s career on the stamp sheet reads as follows:

Bob Dylan (born 1941) is considered by many to be the greatest songwriter of the twentieth century. He has written, recorded and performed compositions of various musical styles including Folk, Blues, Country & Western, Pop, Acoustic and Electric Rock & Roll. From his acoustic political anthems of the early 1960s to his songs of social consciousness and civil rights from the late 60s and 70s, Dylan is regarded as a “Master of Song”. He is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and his songs have been “covered” by more major artists than anyone of his generation. His most notable songs include Blowin’ in the Wind, The Times They Are A-Changin, Like A Rolling Stone and Desolation Row.
